Hello,

My name is Don, and I've been an IT professional since 2010. I am a Google certified Associate Cloud Engineer, and I graduated with honors (3.67 GPA) from Information Technology and Applied Systems at Vancouver Island University in 2012. I'm also currently preparing for Google’s Professional Cloud Architect certification exam in January.

I have somewhat of a Swiss Army knife like skill set in Linux, Windows, multi-tenant cloud platforms, virtualization, enterprise networks, information security, project management, and development.

During my career, I’ve worked as a network engineer serving financial institutions across the globe, and as an administrator for enterprise domains & networks throughout North America. I've had the opportunity to personally assist the Governor General of Canada while I was a planning committee board member and developer, and I've provided a variety of IT services & solutions for small businesses and startups.

Here is a quick rundown of what I work with:

Cloud & Virtualization: I have worked with VMware since 2011, and provide administrative and engineer support for Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Amazon Web Services (AWS). Specifically, I have experience with GCP's Compute Engine, Cloud Storage, Cloud Networking, Stackdriver, and IAM Security & Identity, as well as AWS EC2 instances & S3 storage .

Systems: I have experience in backup & recovery, troubleshooting, and deployment for Linux and Windows systems & applications. I have experience with Debian/Ubuntu, CentOS, and Amazon Linux 2, and various enterprise applications for Linux. In Windows, I've deployed and supported Domain Controllers, Windows DNS, Sharepoint, Exchange, LDAP, and IIS. I am able to create scripts for Bash/shell, Python, Yaml, and PowerShell.

Web Servers, Crawlers, and Email: I commonly work with Apache and NGINX (LAMP/LEMP) web servers, including deployment and support for MySQL, MongoDB, PHP, phpMyAdmin, SSL, and more. I capable with Apache Nutch, Solr, and all things to do with email (Office 360, G-Suite, TLS, SMTP, IMAP, and POP3).

Networks: I've worked with enterprise grade routers, switches, and firewalls (WatchGuard, PFSense, SonicWall, FortiGate, Ubiquiti, iptables), and I've deployed and resolved issues for VPN, VPC, VLAN, LAN, and mesh WiFi networks. I also have experience with monitoring applications like Zabbix, Pandora FMS, and PRTG.
