I mostly hobby-code in JavaScript, because that's the easiest to manage on a Chromebook. I've written quite a bit in Java as well. As such, I can tell you exactly why either language is terrible (except compared to other languages). I've recently picked up Python for work, and boy, is using it a joy.

On the rpg side, I mostly play Pathfinder and Fantasy Craft, some 5e, and a few others here and there. I can rules-lawyer for Pathfinder with the best of them, with the amount I've spent poring over the pfsrd for crafting character concepts. The lesser known Fantasy Craft is my new favorite system, and I'm in several on-and-off campaigns in it.
