I've written code in over 20 languages for 40 years but am new to JavaScript and DOM manipulations.

I owned and ran a microcomputer networking consultancy in Ft. Worth Texas for decades. I now live on the island of Roatan, Honduras and have absolutely no one to discuss ideas and programming issues with. The island is full of sun worshiper tourists, not programmers.

Currently rewriting a system I wrote 8 years ago. The old system used Open Office Calc as a base to create a multi currency Point Of Sale system used in my wife's restaurant. That consisted of over 6,000 lines of basic macro code. Over the years maintenance on it became more and more problematic. I'm several thousand lines into the JavaScript replacement and for the most part it's going OK. I touched JavaScript July 3rd, 2013 for the first time, so I'm still making some really stupid mistakes. My HTML and CSS are also fairly recent skill acquisitions.
