Since the mid-90s, I have worked as a software engineer, production pipeline tools developer, and digital artist for a number of animation and effects studios including Walt Disney Feature Animation, Pacific Data Images, Dreamworks Animation, Rhythm & Hues Studios, RGH Entertainment, and most recently CCP Games.

My former PDI colleague Chris Kazmier and I also wrote the book "MEL Scripting for Maya Animators," which a generation of animation and visual effects students have used to learn how to make useful tools for their own work.
