“Talk is cheap, show me the code.” – Linus Torvalds

I have a Master of Science (MS) degree in computer science from the University of Colorado (CU) at Boulder and my interests lie in software development and deep learning. Before pursuing MS, I was an associate software developer at FlexTrade, a global financial technology firm, for three years. I completed my Bachelor of Technology degree in mechanical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT KGP) in 2016. At CU, I opted for courses that could complement my software development experience and engaged in a deep learning research project. As part of the research project, I investigated the state-of-the-art neural network models and used the idea to automatically segment tumor regions in brain MRI scans. During my master’s, I interned at NetApp, a cloud data, and data management services provider, as a software engineer for seven months, which brought me familiarity with technology such as Kubernetes, Docker, Go, etc.

I still remember the first day in the Programming and Data Structure lab during my freshman year, when we were given a trivial programming assignment in C; with no prior experience in programming, I had difficulty completing it. I took this as a challenge and learned as much as possible about programming, algorithms, data structure, and web development in my spare time. Despite being from a non-related major, I was hired as an associate software developer.

During the three years I worked at FlexTrade, I was part of the team that developed and supported electronic trading solutions for traders and brokers across the globe. My days at FlexTrade helped me hone proficiency in C++, Python, and learn new programming skills. I also got familiar with the Linux command-line interface and networking protocols.

As a software developer with a mechanical engineering background, I felt the need for formal studies in computer science and I secured admission at CU Boulder with a focus on software development and machine learning. I plan to advance my career in software engineering and if possible, in the application domains of deep learning.
