I have been coding in Python for about 10 years, starting when I was studying for my physics master's degree. I wrote tools for manipulating astronomical images and data, managing large datasets from cosmology simulations and producing plots for reports and my dissertation. The while working on my PhD in space instrumentation, planetary science and astrobiology, I wrote a whole host of tools for scientific data analysis and representation.

Since then I have worked as a Research Software Engineer, introducing parallelisation and new functionality in other people's research code, which involved learning a great deal about SQL databases. I now work as a Geospatial Applications Developer, mainly writing applications for machine learning, image processing and image feature extraction.
