In the seventies, Ed Combs adapted some Telco Switch Vendor programs to run on UCS time share, and these programs trimmed from two to six weeks out of the Central Office Equipment (COE) Switch Engineering processes. In the eighties and nineties, he was engaged in automation and mechanization projects. One of his prototyped 3-tier client/server and Citrix systems evolved into one of the first Enterprise work-form-anywhere Computer Assisted Drafting (CAD) with Workflow systems to support COE Planning, Engineering, Installation, and Provisioning. This system has survived nine company mergers and heavy scripting helped modernize data values and file arrangements to keep it as a go-forward system.
