Hi there! I'm Dan (or Ouro) a self-taught programmer, linux power-user and all-round geek. After a brief stint in higher education, during which I learnt a lot of maths but a lot more about myself, I've dived into the programming world; or, at least, deeper into it that my initial forays in high-school ;)
I love science, philosophy, programming, language, and mathematics. I'll devour any book containing at least one of the above. If it's sci-fi, all the better! Yes, I'm a Neal Stephenson fan. I just read Anathem for the first time. <3
I'm from the UK, but I lived abroad most of my life before going to University. I lived in Rome for 5 years, then in Barcelona, Spain for another 11. I speak fluent Spanish and rusty-as-hell Italian.
Some other stuff I love:
- The Sandman graphic novels, by Neil Gaiman
- Veinte poemas de amor y una cancĂon desesperada, a beautiful collection of poems by Pablo Neruda
- Spanish poetry. Civil war era poetry is particularly moving.
- Latin American Boom literature.
- The V for Vendetta movie (actually prefer it to the graphic novel!)
- The Matrix, is amazing.
- Arch Linux. Keep It Simple, Stupid.
- Homage to Catalonia, by George Orwell. Combines Orwell, Barcelona, and the Spanish Civil War into one fascinating account.
- Portal. Alas poor GLaDOS, I knew her, Chell.
- Wikipedia, probably the greatest site in the world. Don't worry StackExchange, you're not far behind!
- The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. If I could travel in time, I'd go meet Douglas Adams.
