The development of humankind and the biosphere as a whole has arrived at a point where the increase in the potential to support life depends upon the benefits of physical productivity, such as those arising from increasing human insight in the physical processes necessary for sustaining plant, animal, human and other life. To bring that human role to increasing scales of space and energy, and decreasing scales of time, has become a main function of computing automation.

Our fellow human being is our ally in this endeavor, and in this alliance the designs of our thoughts can be extended, not only beyond the power and speed of our human bodies, but also beyond our lifetimes.
