I'm an Australian dinosaur. When I was at high school computers were called electronic brains. I went to see a small one (about 3 cubic metres) at a science exhibition and was amazed because it could play noughts and crosses (tic-tac-toe). My school encyclopedia said it would be impossible to build an electronic brain big enough to play chess as it would take up more than a city block. Then they discovered transistors.
My first computer was an 8k machine which I used for script writing and thought it was brilliant. It plugged into the television and I carried it on the road with me in a briefcase to use in motel rooms. A few years later I bought an XT and the next year added a 10M hard drive. Boy was that cutting edge. It has been a love/hate relationship ever since but is definitely an addiction.
Now, I'm trying to get my head around PHP and MYSQL. It would be nice to think I could master it before I die so I'd better get back to it.
