I have been involved in the development of software for analytical electron microscopy, especially STEM-EELS, for over 25 years. I currently have my own consulting business, e-Metrikos, that specializes in providing training, consulting, and custom software development services to researchers and technical staff getting started with the STEM-EELS technique. I had a 20-year career with Gatan, Inc. before going off on my own to start e-Metrikos in 2008. My experience with DigitalMicrograph scripting goes all the way back to its inception in the early 1990's and I still find it to be one of the most useful and flexible software tools for developing electron microscopy applications. I am currently working on an enhanced application development framework that I hope will address the need for a deeper and more reusable set of abstractions and classes for electron microscopy data analysis.
