I'm not a native English speaker. Though I am not a linguist, I had passion for foreign languages when I was a kid. And by the way, the first time I used a tilde was when I discovered Tilde Expansions in bash. Because this is how I was told to express approximation ≃. And who doesn't love bash? Yes the smart lazy unit of my brain prefers spending an hour to prepare an efficient bash script over playing a stressful melody.
The fun part starts when you solve the automation complexity and enslave the machine :)
