Yes, it's true. I started with chaotic code. It was a requirement to achieve fast programs on slow machines. I worked with imperative programming and still do - as most software is based on this paradigm. I use object orientation, even in C and i feel at home with functional programming since i learned it with Lisp and i am happy to use it for modern web projects.
