I am a service manager for an electrical contracting company. A lot of what I do is integrating different security systems (access control, surveillance video, infant protection, burglar alarms and more) so that they can all work together seamlessly.

Most of the time we can work with manufacturers or use out of the box solutions. But sometimes there is no clear solution so I have to write a piece of code or batch file to get things done.

I am not a programmer / developer by trade but instead am trying to give our customers something that our competitors are either unable or unwilling to do.

Every application I write is done on my own time at home either at night or on the weekends. I don't get paid to program and I'm admittedly not very good at it.
