Ever have I suffered the curse of specialization and I sought a multidisciplinary career. I started out trying to be a scientist but it turns out that will kill you if you're not careful about work-life balance.

I then moved onto being an engineer after getting my PhD in nanotechnology and again found that the world was only demanding very specific kinds of nanotechnologists.

I then started to develop some data science skills, general software development and some machine learning and lo and behold it turns out that can be the lynchpin to holding together a multidisciplinary career. I now work in a mixture of research, consulting and self-employed web-app development and my coding skills are what allows me to exploit all my other expertise.
