My name is Jeff.
I started dabbling in HTML and CSS when I was 15. From teaching myself on sites with some tutorials like Angelfire and Geocities, I was able to make a website for myself and one for my band. This turned into a slight addiction and I started taking more tech related classes in high school. I was learning shockwave, photoshop, dreamweaver and trying to dip my toes into javascript as I chose Digital Media as my major in college.
Once in school, I quickly realized that I was absolutely terrified of the upper level math requirements for my major. I mean...why do I need calc 2 to play around in photoshop? This spurred an irrational decision to change my major to History. Now...don't get me wrong...I loved it and still do...but I was only setting myself up for more school...seriously...what can you do with a history degree?
Enter 2007 and a newly minted history grad getting ready to seek a direction for additional education...MA in Public Administration perhaps? Law? But, the economy decided to crash and all prospects of higher learning seemed not only out of reach, but downright foolish in such a volatile employment environment.
So...I found myself in sales. I sold phone service, I sold copiers, and printers and document management software and even brokered logistics. Then I found myself in technology. I worked for an independent ERP consulting firm and tracked client projects and provided subject matter experts within SAP and Big Data in a time and materials basis to supplement their teams in times of technical need or bandwidth assistance. From here I remained within technical consulting and sales for the next few years until I realized I couldn't be the one offering talent any more. I wanted to be the talent. Why was I brainlessly making cold calls hoping someone would give me the time of day to learn if I could help them or not. I wanted to help myself...so I did.
I quit my job, signed up for The Iron Yard and my nose has been in an IED ever since.
I love using my head again. I love building and most of all...I absolutely love the feeling when I figure out why my code doesn't work.
