I have interest in analog electronics, Linux and other Unix-like systems, outdoor activities such as hiking, skiing, cycling and hunting.

I am most familiar with the C programming language while I am able to make use C++ if necessary.

I prefer Free Open Source software, and enjoy contributing to (F)OSS projects as an expenditure of "surplus intellectual energy". As compared to games and puzzles, programming (F)OSS projects brings benefit to more people than myself (well, maybe one could argue the code I write is more of a curse than a benefit to its users, but I feel better if I can cause myself to believe somebody gets some benefit from it).

I view programming as a "Journal of Logical Thought". I think it keeps me sharper while the challenge of creating a useful program stimulates creativity. This seems a much better past-time than ingesting large quantities of informational fast-food from the television, becoming mentally obese with surplus trivial facts. For example, the general public reaps no benefit from having a daily update on the latest gossip of Justin Bieber's personal affairs.

Stated as the most important part of what makes me tick is the notion that we are created beings. We do not exist if God does not exist. Any creative or intellectually challenging accomplishment I credit to God's glory since it follows that these are glorious things coming from a natural outworking of His likeness which is designed into our being. Many people disagree with me on this point, and I think you are free to do so. I have in the past attempted to take issue and argue my position with those who are strongly resistant, and have found this method puts me on the losing side whether or not I "win" the argument from an intellectual standpoint. These arguments often escalate to a contest of clever wit, but only cause both parties to become more strongly set our respective opinions. I am willing to argue my stand and listen openly to the opposition in a mutually respectful manner. In contrast, these kinds of discussions are beneficial to both parties.

That said, it is great joy for me to believe as I do, and even greater joy to give that to another person, but I am not one to force it on another when it is not willingly received. I believe God has given us each the freedom to choose what we will believe, and I am learning it is not within in His nature to impose these beliefs on a person against his/her will. Perhaps this bio is best in keeping with this policy. It is shared information, but you don't have to read it if you don't like it.
