I’m currently studying my masters in Information & Network Security at the University of Limerick in Ireland. I will be finished my theses at the end of August. Prior to my masters I studied Computer & Electronic Engineering at the Galway Mayo Institute Technology where I achieved a first class honours. For my final year project I created a prototype for a virtual jukebox Android app that allows users to choose from a selection of available songs by connecting to a nearby Bluetooth server.
My interests started to turn towards DevOps after I discovered The New Stack podcast. The podcast keeps me up to date with the latest DevOps technologies and proved to be a vital source of information for my masters theses. My theses is based on open source standards and is aimed at engineering a scalable back-end solution using IBM Bluemix and Docker containers for handling the flow of traffic from MQTT clients. I configured and developed a complete CI pipeline written inside a Jenkinsfile that triggers a build anytime a change is made. I recently taught IoT summer school students in the University of Limerick how to use tools such as Node-RED and OpenWhisk as well as the MQTT protocol.
I find the area of DevOps to be utterly fascinating as the technology landscape continues to change rapidly. I’m currently interested in learning how to use tools such as Kubernetes and Istio as well as the development of blockchain applications.
