A relatively late conversion to becoming a developer - I retrained in 2017, in my mid-30s. Since then I've done various things, but as of 2022 - and what I want to continue doing in the future - is mostly working on the frontend of web applications, using Javascript and particularly React extensively. But I also know a fair bit about some backend languages and general programming - and in particular have a strong interest in functional programming. Haskell and Rust are actually my favourite languages even though I've yet to use either of them professionally.

In my role as a frontend web developer I'm particularly passionate about accessibility - in particular using the correct HTML elements and then using ARIA correctly where it's needed (but only then - see the "first rule of ARIA"). Primarily using Javascript to make user interfaces, whether with or without modern frameworks, absolutely does not absolve developers of the responsibility to know HTML well and understand how their code might interact with assistive technologies.
