Alongside my current occupation of being a research assistant, I have embarked on part-time PhD studies in the Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics at KCL. The aim of the PhD is to investigate the molecular basis of a rare genetic kidney disease called nephrotic syndrome, using bioinformatic techniques to decode DNA. Ultimately, I am also interested in studying why some people are prone to this disease, improve diagnosis and treatment for young children with nephrotic syndrome.
A core element of my PhD research involves bioinformatics and therefore coding, mainly Python and Bash, in order to filter genetic variants in very large data files that contain information on the whole genome of a patient.
