I studied computer science at the University of Manchester and, after graduating in 1973, I was lucky to work on the development of a bibliographic database for the British Library. I then worked for database vendors for 15 years, building and supporting database systems. My career took me eventually into database application development and consultancy and I spent the last 20 years helping database programmers with the design and use of relational databases.
