Terdon, thanks for that I guess I did jump the gun a bit. As for chipperyman, he's exactly the kind of person who puts me off going onto these kind of forums in the first place. Bob, point taken but you should understand that it's all a bit daunting jumping into something you know nothing about, and i look to sites like this for help. Imagine, I'd spent almost all night installing ubuntu and when i tried to use it, i couldn't. Although I don't expect immediate responses and appreciate that people volunteer to help others here, it seems a bit rude to see a post from a new comer and delete it. As for slipperymans comments, the question he would have read was my editted version, because the 'reason' given was not specific i.e it gave a list of possible reasons. I then changed the question in a way that may have shortenend it, but then realised it made less sense. 1. I know it's a Q/A site, but wouldn't it have been friendlier to say we can't answer your Q because....? Instead i think 4 or 5 people read it and they all flagged it. That basically means that people 'in the know' had read it, but rather than try to be helpful they thought they'll just send that to the bin. 2. As for a google search, that's how i found this site. I had found several other sites which gave instructions which didn't work, and in THE END i posted here. 3. Your comments about flagging questions: I often wonder why people do volunteer for sites like this. I use many Q/A sites myself and always try my best to understand what the questioner means, deleting a question is something i do to those that abuse the site. My actual job is electonic fault finding and I know from experience that customers cannot describe the actual fault of something in the same way a technical person can, so i'm finely tuned to being able to understand the equivalent of a newbie. I would have thought that anyone volunteering on a site like this would have similar expertise. At the end of the day I had explained clearly what i had installed, what i was trying to do, and what was preventing me doing it. If any experienced person had read it for what it was and imagined themselves in my position, it would have been easy to work out. But hitting that button and hiding my question prevented anyone more tollerant from assisiting me. Had i logged in today and found no answers yet, i wouldn't have been so disappointed, but as you can appreciate it's a long time to wait when you just want to get on. But finding my Q had been read and flagged was interpreted as 'get the hell off our forums'. Rant over, and with apologies to Terdon who made me feel better about this place prior to reading chipprymans comments, i think i'll take his advice and leave.
