A pata da gazela is a novel written by the Brazilian writer José de Alencar. It was first published in 1870.

Plot

The story revolves around Horacio, Leopoldo, Laura and Amélia.

Horacio, a young and seductive man, sees when the footman of the beautiful girls knocks off a foot from a pair of tiny and cute leather and silk ankle boots and falls in love with the owner of the unknown feet. Leopoldo, who was on the same street, catches a glimpse of Amélia and falls in love with her smile, even after catching a glimpse of the misshapen feet that he thinks are hers. From this chance, the plot develops into a love triangle between Horácio, Amélia and Leopoldo.

A pata da gazela is a work by Alencar that demonstrates how love should be guided by the soul, like Leopoldo and not by appearance, like Horacio.
