Chaitanya Singha Dev was the fifty-sixth king of the Mallabhum (in present-day West Bengal, India). He ruled from 1748 to 1801 CE. His kingdom was being destroyed by the Maratha who were plundering and destroying everything in their sight. In order to save his kingdom and himself he signed peace Treaty and agreed to paid chauth to Marathas Marathas were invited to raid by his own Cousin brother Damodar Singh Deva[1]
