Delma Juzar (27 December 1928 – 18 August 1988), also known as Del Yuzar, was an Indonesian actor and soldier turned lawyer. Juzar made his film debut in Darah dan Doa (1950) and starred in several films before going to the Faculty of Law at Universitas Indonesia in 1951.

Life and career

Juzar was born on 27 December 1928 in Medan, Dutch East Indies, as the eldest child of the five children of Muhammad Juzar and Syahrizat Juzar.[1][2] When still in school, he joined the school theatre troupe.[1] Juzar attended officer training in Brastagi, where he later became a soldier during Indonesian National Revolution.[1]

When attending high school, he moved to Jakarta to pursue his acting career.[2] Later, when Perfini was looking for a newcomer actor, Juzar was chosen and later made his film debut by starring in Usmar Ismail's directed Darah dan Doa (1950), where he played the role of Captain Sudarto.[1]

Family

Juzar was married to Taty Hanafiah (b. 1929) and had four children: Dinda Esta Juzar, Dadi Santara Juzar, Danakarya Juzar, and Dafsah Arifah Juzar.

Death and legacy

On the night of 18 August 1988, Juzar died at the age of 59, after suffering from lung cancer for a month.[3] His body was laid at his residence in Mampang Prapatan, Pasar Minggu, and was buried at Jeruk Purut Cemetery on 19 August.[3]
