The Eurovision Young Musicians 2024 is set to be the 21st edition of the Eurovision Young Musicians. It is set to take place in the Stormen Concert Hall in Bodø, Norway, on 17 August 2024.[1][2] It is organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) alongside host broadcaster Norsk Rikskringkasting (NRK).[3][4]

Location

The contest will be held at Stormen Concert Hall in Bodø, Norway

On 11 July 2023, the European Broadcasting Union announced on its official website that the contest would take place in the city of Bodø, Norway, during the city's role as European Capital of Culture.[3] On Twitter, the organisation confirmed that Stormen Concert Hall has been chosen as the venue in which the competition will take place.[5] This will be the second edition organised in Norway since the first one in 2000, when it was held in Bergen.[6]

Provisional list of participating countries

As of January 2024, ten countries confirmed their intention to participate in the contest. Slovenia, Armenia, and Switzerland return to the contest after having last participated in 2018, 2012, and 2006, respectively. On their Facebook post in July 2023, the European Broadcasting Union announced there were ten participation slots available for broadcasters who wished to take part in the contest.[7][8] However on 10 January 2024, the EBU's official representative for the Eurovision Young Musicians Amelie Rossignol announced that a maximum of eleven countries may participate in 2024, this would comprise of ten broadcasters from other countries alongside the host country's broadcaster.[9][10]

Other countries

  •  North Macedonia  In mid-September 2023, Macedonian broadcaster MRT published its budget plan for the 2023/2024 season, which allocates money towards participation in the 2024 editions of both ESC and JESC, but makes no mention of EYM.[36] While it was later clarified that the plan was still awaiting the approval of the government,[37] its approval would likely rule out a return of the country. However, on 5 December 2023 they did not appear on the list of participants for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 to which they later explained that it was due to the anniversary of the broadcaster, which leaves participation in uncertainty unless a budget is released. North Macedonia last took part in 1994.

Active EBU member broadcasters in Bulgaria,[38] Georgia,[39] the Netherlands,[40] and Wales[41] confirmed they would not participate in the event. On 30 November 2023, Croatia confirmed its withdrawal from the contest with no reason provided.[42][43][44] In late-December 2023, the BBC announced that the United Kingdom has no plans to return to the 2024 competition, as the BBC Young Musician contest is being held at the same time as the final of the Eurovision Young Musicians.[45][46][47]

Broadcasts

All participating broadcasters may choose to have on-site or remote commentators providing insight and voting information to their local audience. The European Broadcasting Union will also provide international live streams of the contest through their official YouTube channel with no commentary.
