Line S5 (Chengdu Metro), also known as Chengdu - Meishan Line, shortened as Cheng - Mei LineMeishan Line. It is a project in Chengdu, China. This line started from Honglian Station, Line 19 ,Tianfu New Area, Chengdu, and ends at Meishan East Railway Station (Metro & National Railway), Dongpo, Meishan. This line is 59 km long and has 5 underground stations and 8 elevated/ground stations. Construction started on Sep 26, 2022, and Line S5 is expected to open in Dec 2026.

History

2014

Line 1 Phase 3's Western China International Expo City station released a transit hub design, showing Line S5's future station will be transferring at this station with Line 1, Line 6, and Line 18.[1] Line S5 is located on LG2 floor.[2]

2016

This year, Western China International Expo City station had completed the Line S5's platform and structural construction with all 4 lines in the station.[3] However, Line S5 later was announced not to go to Western China International Expo City station, and will pass through Line 6's Qinghuangsi Station, and Line 19's Honglian Station.

2020

  • Aug 4, Chengdu and Meishan signed 《Chengmei Municipal Railway Line S5 Co-construction and Co-management Cooperation Agreement》. It shows that Line S5 will be having branch line and a main line. Main line is 50.4 km (Chengdu Section is 19.4 km, Meishan Section is 31 km), costing 156 0000 0000 Yuan, and the branch line is 32.8 km, costing 97 0000 0000 Yuan. The whole line is 83.2 km and 253 0000 0000 Yuan.[4][5]

2021

  • Sep 26, Sichuan Chengmei Rail Transit Co., Ltd, the operating company of Line S5 had registered in Chengdu, with 2 0000 0000 Yuan. A Meishan company owns 54.8%, and Chengdu Metro owns 45.2% of this company.[6][7]
  • Dec 12, by NDRC's publication,[8]《Chengdu-Chongqing Multi-layer Transit Plan》had been delivered to Chengdu and Chongqing, showing that[9] this line started from Honglian Station, Line 19 ,Tianfu New Area, Chengdu, and ends at Meishan East Railway Station (Metro & National Railway), Dongpo, Meishan. It passes through Science City, Legoland Sichuan, Black Dragon Pool, Mindong New Area, etc.
  • Dec 29, Chengdu Metro published Chengdu - Meishan Line Field Assessment Bidding.[10] The Assessment shows the line is 58 km(Chengdu: 19.22 km, Meishan: 8.78 km), underground: 8.65 km, elevated: 43.49 km, ground level: 5.86 km. 12 stations, with Jiancha Depot and Meishanbei Depot, with 2 power centres.[11]

2022

  • Aug 26, Line S5 started project bidding.[12]
  • Sep 26, Line S5 conducted a construction initiation ceremony at Qinghuangshi and Shigao Station.[13][14]
  • Sep 26, Line S5's bidding result is announced, and China Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd. had won.[15]
  • Oct 15, Shigao station finished fencing, marking the start of station construction.[16]
  • Nov 18, Line S5's Min River Mega Bridge started construction.

2023

  • Jul 7, station names had been posted for the Chengdu section, and public was invited to give suggestions.[17]
  • Aug 15, station names had been posted for the Chengdu section officially.[18]

Train

Line S5 will use 4-car Type-A trains, with standard capacity of 756 passengers. The power system is 1,500 V DC - overhead lines.The trains operates at 160 km/h max. There will be 23 Trains/92 Cars.
