I am having trouble getting a maven project that I pulled down from a svn repository to deploy on a Tomcat server in eclipse. I am new to the whole process and have been trying to get this to work all day. I am not sure what the problem is at this point and any direction would be greatly appreciated! Here is the console output from the server.

Note: This project is working on another co-workers computer and I have pulled down the latest version, I thought it may be some incorrect configuration on my part of either tomcat or eclipse.

EDIT:

SOLVED:

This may or may not be useful to others, but keep in mind I am new to Maven, turns out I was missing Maven Dependencies in the Deployment Assembly.

This was added by right clicking on the project in Eclipse.

->Properties -> Deployment Assembly -> Add --> and then selected Maven Dependencies.

java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.springframework.context.ApplicationContext

Your problem is that the spring JAR file is not in your application's classpath. Maybe post the pom.xml file so we can how the jar files are bundled?

  • The spring jar file does seem to be on the class path, Is there anything else that you think could be the problem? – Curt Aug 16 '12 at 13:20

Before you worry about the Eclipse integration I would suggest to try building the war from source with maven. Run

mvn clean install

That should give you the war in the target folder. Manually deploy that and see if it works correctly. Only after that is the case would I worry about using it from Eclipse.

In Eclipse use a new version that has the M2Eclipse integration installed and import the project as a Maven project. That should trigger you to install WTP and then it should work ok.

If not.. let us know more. Maybe even share the source of the war project if it is open source so we can see the pom and more..

  • I am using the latest version of eclipse with the M2E plugin installed, along with the subversive svn plugin, I just noticed when I created the new project a new WEB-INF folder was created, I was not sure if this may be related. – Curt Aug 15 '12 at 20:52
  • And like I said in the edit, it deploys just fine on a co-workers computer in eclipse, so it must have something to do with my local configuration after pulling down the project from the repository. – Curt Aug 15 '12 at 21:00
  • Yeah... I noticed that edit later. So if it works on your colleagues setup you "just" need to figure out the difference ;-) – Manfred Moser Aug 16 '12 at 17:11
