TemplateInputException: Error resolving template ****, template might not exist

Question

Im using SpringBoot with a mySql database.

I am trying to filter search through a table of teams. Initially this table was a thymeleaf table (see my related SO questions) but after exhausting all resources available on the internet, to no success I decided to implement the search differently.

I found a really helpful website that has a practical, relevant example of what I want to implement.

I have a working example of it which is fine and good, but when I got to implement it into my project I get a few thought provoking errors, since I am a total Noob I am seeking the generous help of stackoverflow users.

I have also tried search stack overflow for a solution with no success.

Thymeleaf cannot detect templates inside spring-boot project

When I go onto the relevant webpage I receive an error dialog immediately, see below with the console errors, you can also see the table is not being populated at all and is in fact empty:

Need few more details on how you are setting your projects.

where is your html located. Is it under /resources/templates ?
you are missing <html xmlns:th="http://www.thymeleaf.org"> on your html.
try commenting out your jQuery Ajax call and see if your initial html is loaded properly or not.
1. Is your controller rest controller @RestController is a convenience annotation that does nothing more than adding the @Controller and @ResponseBody ?

Check these and it should fix your problem.

I updated the code to show my project set up, but yes my html files are located here. I included this code and it resolved one of the client side console errors (only 1 get 500 error request shows now). Commented out the Ajax query, this resulted in the showteams2.html page loading (with no data) just showing the columns. My controller is annotated with Controller at the top, I changed it to RestController and this messed up all the views, but to my knowledge it is a rest controller asides this. – KirstenKali Mar 15 '18 at 11:34
The thing I cant get my head around is the 2 controller methods. One is a normal get ("/showteams2") which returns the "teams2.html" page. Then the second one ("/all") which returns all the teams and is being called by the Ajax request on the teams2.html page, the errors I am getting insinuate I need the controller "/all" to return a template of some sort. – KirstenKali Mar 15 '18 at 11:40

I changed my "/all" controller ever so slightly:

  @RequestMapping(value="/all", method=RequestMethod.GET)
   @ResponseBody
    public List<Team> getResource() {

       List<Team> cueList = teamRepository.findAll();


        return cueList;
    }

By adding the ResponseBody annotation it solved all issues and the search works perfectly!
