Using v2021.3.20f1 I used the "Third Person" template.

I downloaded the "Standing to Crouched" on Heraklios By A. Dizon animation on Mixamo: https://www.mixamo.com/#/?page=1&query=standing+to+crouch with:

  • Format "FBX for Unity(.fbx)"
  • "Without Skin"
  • 60fps
  • None for keyframe reduction.

I saved it in "Assets/Character/Animations/Standing To Crouched"

I then opened it up in the Inspector > Rig, and changed the "Animation Type" to "Humanoid".

However, when I play the animation clip, the character is floating when it finishes the crouch animation:

floating animation

Another issue I have faced (which may be unrelated), is that if I change the Avatar definition to "Copy From Other Avater" and choose "ArmatureAvatar", I get the following error:

File 'Standing To Crouched' copied Avatar Rig Configuration mis-match. Transform hierarchy does not match:
Transform 'Hips' for human bone 'Hips' not found

UnityEngine.GUIUtility:ProcessEvent (int,intptr,bool&)

error message

Note that if I then use a character model downloaded from Mixamo this "Hips" errors goes away, but the issue with the animation remains:
